World Ocean Day 2025

This World Ocean Day, be part of something bigger – protect our seas, one lobster at a time.

The UN conference is set to start tomorrow, tTaking place in Nice, France, the 2025 UN Ocean Conference brings together governments, scientists, NGOs and grassroots organisations to tackle the pressing challenges facing our seas – from overfishing and pollution to climate change and biodiversity loss.

While we are calling on greater ocean protection all over the world, we are doing our bit for our coastline in the NE, and you can help out too!

Today, on World Ocean Day, we’re reflecting on the wonder, beauty, and fragility of our blue planet – and inviting you to play a part in protecting it.

At Whitby Lobster Hatchery, our mission is to protect and replenish native lobster stocks through sustainable practices and community support. This week, as global leaders gather at the UN Ocean Conference, we stand alongside ocean advocates around the world calling for stronger protections for marine ecosystems.

As David Attenborough said in his latest movie

"The ocean can bounce back to life," Sir David says. "If left alone it may not just recover but thrive beyond anything anyone alive has ever seen."

This World Ocean Day, we invite you to Adopt a Lobster – a meaningful way to contribute to marine conservation and support the future of local fisheries. For just £6.50, you can help us raise and release baby lobsters into our local seas, where they’ll grow and thrive in the wild.
