Whitby Lobster Hatchery Welcomes New Trustees to Strengthen Charity’s Future
Whitby Lobster Hatchery is proud to welcome a number of new trustees to its growing board, bringing together a diverse range of skills, experience and passion to help guide the charity into its next chapter.
Based on Whitby’s historic Fish Pier, the charity works to support sustainable fisheries and healthier seas through its three core pillars: conservation, education and research. The organisation aims to release up to 100,000 juvenile lobsters annually while inspiring future generations to better understand and protect the marine environment.

The strengthened board brings expertise from marine science, finance, governance, conservation, education and business, helping the charity continue to grow both as a conservation project and as a valued part of the Whitby community.
Chair of Trustees Linda Wild said:
“We are delighted to welcome new trustees to the Whitby Lobster Hatchery family. Each person brings valuable knowledge, energy and commitment to the charity. Together we are building a strong and sustainable future for the hatchery, the local fishing industry and our marine environment.”
Among the trustees are experienced marine scientists, chartered accountants, conservation leaders and individuals with strong connections to Whitby and the Yorkshire coast. Their combined experience will help support the charity’s long-term ambitions, including expanding marine education opportunities, advancing research partnerships and continuing practical conservation work in the North Sea.
General Manager Joe Redfern added:
“The support and expertise of our trustees is incredibly important to the success of the charity. As we continue to grow, having a passionate and skilled board helps ensure we stay true to our mission while creating lasting impact for both marine life and coastal communities.”
Whitby Lobster Hatchery has become one of the town’s leading environmental projects since launching in 2023, working closely with fishermen, researchers, volunteers and the local community to help protect lobster populations and preserve Whitby’s fishing heritage for future generations.
The charity would also like to thank existing trustees, volunteers, supporters and partners whose continued dedication has helped the project reach this exciting stage.
