Rattle Owl Joins "Buy One Release One"

The Whitby Lobster Hatchery is expanding its "Buy One Release One" scheme with the support of The Rattle Owl in York. The scheme aims to protect wild populations of lobsters by rearing and releasing juveniles into the North Sea.

  Lobster fishing along the Yorkshire coast is a major source of income for local fishing communities. Lobster landed into Whitby have seen a 400% increase in the past two decades. The Whitby Lobster Hatchery project is working to ensure this upward trend is sustainable by supporting lobster stocks and protecting the marine environment.

 The "Buy One Release One" scheme offers businesses the opportunity to offset the impact of seafood consumption by donating £1 to the marine conservation charity for each lobster or seafood dish sold. The Rattle Owl, an independent restaurant in York, has recently joined the scheme to support the sustainability of our oceans.

The Rattle Owl is committed to sustainable, high quality and local produce already committing to at least 90% of their produce being from a 30 mile radius. Their delicious adaptable menu uses produce that would at times not get utilised. For nearly a decade The Rattle Owl has successfully stood by these principles and is now taking it a step further in supporting the Whitby Lobster Hatchery's marine conservation ambitions.
