Philip ColbertT(The Lobstars) X Whitby Lobster Hatchery invite you to join us in a ground breaking experiment: The Lobster Camouflage Theory project. We'll introduce juvenile lobsters into environments coloured with five distinct hues representing different human emotions. Our goal is to see if the lobsters' shells react to their surroundings. This pioneering project combines scientific research with artistic creation and art history, simultaneously paying homage to Andy Warhol's Camouflage.
Whitby Lobster Hatchery has teamed up with Philip Colbert to deliver some artist lobster research. Exploring the theory that lobster can change colour to match their environment. You can tune in to watch the experiment LIVE by clicking this link (/whitbylobsterhatchery).
You can support the experiment by minting ONE of the five editions corresponding to each tank. These editions will remain available throughout the experiment, with all profits from the project donated to Whitby Lobster Hatchery to support their conservative efforts. At the conclusion of the experiment, holders of each edition will receive a time-lapse video artwork from within the tank of the colour they selected. Each edition represents a crucial component of a final artwork. Minting all FIVE editions will grant you ownership of a complete editioned video artwork. The number of editioned video works will be determined by the number of holders who possess all 5 editions. This comprehensive piece of the five editions will be featured in a future exhibition showcasing the colourful evolution within the tanks.
The project serves as a platform for creative experimentation and collaboration. Colbert's visionary approach combines elements of contemporary art and scientific research, pushing the boundaries of both disciplines. The resulting artwork, born from the data gathered during the experiment, will be a testament to the intersection of art and science. In supporting the project, this gesture not only supports vital conservation efforts but also underscores the project's commitment to environmental stewardship and marine biodiversity. Through science and art, the project invites us to reimagine our relationship with the natural world and to embrace the transformative power of interdisciplinary and experimental art making.
Join us as we explore lobster camouflage theory, bridging art and science, and make a meaningful impact while seeing the results of the lobster camouflage project first hand.
The experiment will officially run from 9th February until 30th April. Anyone can follow the experiment on Whitby Lobster Hatchery Twitch Channel throughout the experiment.
